My teaching philosopy is based on a combination of the behavoralist theory and the humanistic theory. I seen both theories applied within the classroom and feel like they both are of equal importance. I plan on creating a classroom of respect while providing clear and consice instruction. My goal is to teach to understand and learn myself, I plan on learning along side my students. I also plan to understand behavioral issues, I will ask questions and try to understand why the behavior is occuring instead of throwing out consequences.
The portfolio I have designed includes the idea teaching strategies I plan on addressing when I become a teacher. My approach will learn toward student centered that encourages students to be responsible young students who are in charge of their own destiny. I will be using a combination of both humanist and behaviorist approach in the classroom. As teachers get experience they get a feel for which works and doesn't. As a future educator I believe the most important thing to remember is that no single technique is going to work every time with every student. Resources will be used in order to get provide the best possible instruction. My reflective practice would include assessing with management plan works within the classroom. If something is not working, I will change my approach in order to better my teaching and management skills to better address the needs of all students in my classroom.
The rules and procedures in the classroom will help ensure my management plan. If the students dont take the rules and procedures serious then there will be more behavioral issues occuring in the class which would then take time away from the students receiving instruction and learning. I will teach rules and procedures and ensure students are following them. The idea of presenting rules and procedures is so that it creates a fun and safe learning environment that is free from distractions.
